Director and Accompanists

Chorus Director:
ANTHONY BROUWERS
Anthony Brouwers joined the chorus
during 1984 and served as a Assistant Director for many years.
Anthony immigrated from Holland in
1954 and started his musical career in Lethbridge and Calgary. He plays
the guitar, clarinet, saxaphone and also performs as a solo vocal artist.
During 1960, he moved to Victoria
where he continued his musical career.

MARY ROSS
Mary Ross, accordionist, has enjoyed accompanying The Greater Victoria Chorus
since 2000. She enjoys the enthusiasm that the Chorus has for music and the
varied entertaining programs that they perform.
Mary's musical career has been diverse as an entertainer and music instructor.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Education (Music Major) in her hometown of
Calgary and taught at elementary schools in Victoria, B.C. for six years. She
also offered accordion instruction in the school system as well as privately.
In addition to performing with the Victoria Police Chorus, Mary is also a
musician for Irish Dancing Competitions, Scottish Country Dancing Events,
German Oktoberfests, and entertains with Scottish comedian/singer George
McDowall.

VALERIE TURNER - piano
Val first heard the Greater
Victoria Police Chorus at The Lodge at Broadmead where she works as Music
Recreationist and is honoured to join Mary and Ed in accompanying this group
of fine voices with their original vocal arrangements by Director 'Tony
Brouwers'.
Val started classical piano studies
at age 10 in Toronto. In high school, she played clarinet and flute and
first experienced playing in Big Band, Jazz Band and Concert Bands.
Since moving to Victoria she has
played hotel lounges, restaurants, Princess cruises, with community
orchestras, big bands and in musical productions.
When not playing piano or teaching
piano in her home studio, Val enjoys paddling her kayak around Victoria
waters, long walks with her partner 'Roy' and golden retriever, or traveling
the world.

ED SALYN
Ed Salyn, born in Saskatchewan, and went to school in Brandon Manitoba. His
first musical experience was as a trumpet player in a sea cadet marching
band. He went on to work at a music store and progressed to playing drums
in various dance bands in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Victoria. He joined
the Greater Victoria Police Chorus in January of 2000 as a drummer and
subsequently singing as a 2nd tenor.

JOHN
STRELOFF
John Streloff, was born and
raised in British Columbia. He studied music at the academy of mom's
kitchen under professor mom. He learned his first three cords on a
guitar at the age of eight. From that point on he is self-taught.
John also sing a very deep bass. |
